Twins: Brookstone Clear Dual Drive

Radius has had a great success with their dual dynamic IEM for a while now, but it might seem their good day could be over soon. Brookstone, an U.S. novelty chain store, now offers a dual dynamic IEM called the 'Clear Dual Drive Earbuds' that is almost an identical copy of the DDM2, very likely from the same factory (OEM?) that manufactures for Radius. Costing only $60, which is about 1/5 of DDM2's MSRP, the Brookstone dual driver seems like a steal. What is the catch? Well, Brookstone only operates in the U.S.. Hmmm...

*Thanks to Jant71 for the picture. See the Head-fi.org discussion here.

Man, they do look similar... $60 doesn't seem too bad; I would expect Brookstone would upcharge it. I don' tknow many people who go to Brookstone to buy earphones.

I am 99.9% sure it is a China made knock off that is rebranded for Brookstone. The retail is set below the manufacturing cost of the DDM2 at that. Most likely junk drivers that can't handle power from the weakest mp3 players out there. Don't waste your money.

Actually the dual driver setup used in DDM2 and Brookstone is not an easy copy, to say the least. See the detail of the DDM driver in my first Radius review here: http://www.inearmatters.net/2010/10/review-radius-hp-twf11r-double-fun.html

Also, if you follow the Head-fi discussion, the consensus so far seems to be quite positive, even from previous DDM2 owners.

This is looking closer to that of the 0.1%.

I have a pair of the Brookstone's and although I haven't heard the DDM2, but only read the review on this site and a couple of other reviews I'm very convinced that these are very to close to the DDM2.

They actually fare very well when comparing them to my Sennheiser IE8, another bass focused earphone, so at the $60 they are a steal!

I received my pair today and initial impressions are extremely positive. For $60, these blow the pants off of any earphones I've found near their price range. I haven't heard the DDM2 but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if these are simple OEM rebrands of the same earphones Radius is selling.

Even if they aren't and the DDM2 is actually superior, I don't really care because these earphones are amazing for only $60.
