[Preview] LEAR Le01

I was just being offered a chance to review a pair of freshly out-of-China IEM called the Le01, made by a new company called LEAR. The IEM is currently on its way to me and hopefully I will received by the weekend (or early next week at most). The interesting bit about this IEM is it received quite a few good reviews on some early adapters as being a great bass heavy IEM with good value of money. I guess we will see how well it actually turns out in a few days. For now, please allow me to share the spec with you all.
  • Driver unit: 10.7mm dynamic transducer
  • Frequency Response: 10Hz~26 kHz
  • Impedance: 20 ohm
  • Sensitivity: 112dB/mW at 1 kHz
  • Rated Power: 10mW
  • Max power: 40mW
  • Plug: 3.5mm
  • Cable length: 1.3m
  • 3 pairs of single silicone flange ear-tips (2 small, 2 medium, 2 large), and 1 pair of bi-flanges ear-tips. 1 shirt clip.
[UPDATE] Just got the Le01 from the delivery man and I already gave it a listen. So far the sound quality has really impressed me. It is another one of those IEM with high value factor. I was told the SQ will improve after 100hrs of burn-in and this is what I am doing currently. The full review can be expected before the end of next week (hopefully). here is a teaser's shot:

[UPDATE AGAIN] The review is ready. Click here to read.

I have this IEM too. Burn-in more than 150 hours.

I suggest you burn-in this earphone more than 250 will be better.

I have clocked in about 100 hrs on Le01 now, and as far as I can tell the change beyond 50hrs isn't really that much and doesn't impact the overall sound signature any more. If there is any further improvement, I doubt it will be significant enough to affect my judgment on its SQ, thus I will start my review based on what I am hearing now. I'll keep using it after the review and I'll write a follow up if indeed there is an improvement, so no worry there.

Great!
I can wait.

Thanks for the great reviews. Any chance you can compare these IEMs to the Etymotic ER4P / ER4S? Those are my reference points (and well known and respected for their sound quality, so such a comparison might be of interest to many readers). Thanks again for your reviews.

P.S. Any chance you could set up your blog to allow anonymous comments? (with "word verification", i.e., CAPTCHA)

Where can these be bought in USA, and price?? Thx.

I don't have ER4S/P to compare it to, but iM716 in my pass multiple IEM review is said to be very closely resemble (though not yet the same level as)ER4P, perhaps that will give you an idea of how the two compare. It is possible for future ER4 review but nothing is definite at this point.

Unfortunately there is a slight complication so the full review will be delayed for a week or two. The good news is I have heard LEAR is making minor improvement on their next batch of Le01 so maybe the delay might work in favor for those of you who are waiting.

BTW, anonymous comment should be activated by now. Cheer.

Currently you can get Le01 from eBay for US$60~$70 but I'll expect it to go down a bit once LEAR is ready for a full release. For now, LEAR is still focusing on the Hong Kong market which means supply is limited and price is slight higher else where. Full release is said to be in January AFAIK.

Improvement!?
That means the sound???

For what I know, they plan to revise the asymmetrical cable to symmetrical. Not sure whether it will be the next batch but I think they have plan to improve the sound too.

The cord seems to be really thin. The problem I've had with all of my earphones is that sooner or later the cord begins to break in the area where it meets the 3.5mm plug. Does this area look safe in these LEAR ones?

Sorry about the late reply.

The cable used on Le01 is about average quality. It is neither the best nor the worst. Note that if you always find your headphones' cable breaks in certain way, than it is very likely either your habit or an environmental factor that caused the problem. You might want to look into that.
